    Antenna HF8V

      Hello everyone,

I managed to find plans for making this antenna. Everything can be done except for the high voltage capacitors. The original manufacturer Becher sells them as spare parts, but one costs 25 EUR and the other 31 EUR, not counting shipping from the USA.
I found a distributor of the capacitor manufacturer HEC in Germany from whom I received a response that since these are high voltage components, they cannot sell them to private individuals; as a company or through a university, there is no problem. The minimum quantity is 5 pieces of each. I was a bit surprised, I don't need 5 of each but mainly that they cannot sell me the component just because it is 'high voltage'.

So, has anyone built this antenna and what capacitors did they use, or do you know of any suitable replacement?

      Thank you,
      Peter
      OM2APF

PS: I live in an apartment building and wire antennas are not an option, so I am considering a vertical. I currently have a 5/8 on CB but I have tuned it for 10m and it can also be used for 15m without a tuner with an SWR of 2.2, and for 10m 1.0.

If you know the capacity, try looking: http://www.nd2x.net/ur4ll.html[/URL]

      Hello,

Thank you, I know the capacity and I have already found what I need there. So I'm going for it.

Hi, if you are going to order something from the above-mentioned site, I would join, there are interesting things, maybe it would be cheaper for us together.

      Hello Marian,

Sure, I would be glad if as many people as possible sign up, it saves on postage. I have already emailed them about the postage, but so far no response.
By the way, I am also having the same discussion with Ivan OM4ABD on cbradio.cz.

I will guide him here so we have it all in one place. Anyway, no one besides me and Ivan has contributed or advised.

      Hello Peter,
So I'm already on this forum. Thank you for the links you sent me. I will check them out. It will probably be interesting, I see the advantage in that the antenna is built directly on the ground. No mast is needed!!!! At least that's what I gather from the information I have so far.
By the way, my QTH is Považany, so we could communicate on 2 meters, directly, or via Javorina. What do you think????

      Ivan,

2m and 70cm at home QTH is a thing of the past. I had a Diamond X-300 antenna on the roof and 30m of coaxial cable going up to it. But I only have one coaxial cable and I was dealing with a relay switch or splitter between HF and 2m/70cm. Adding another 30m coaxial seemed counterproductive, and I allocated my finances elsewhere. Anyway, apart from the Galanta repeater, I haven't noted any other activity. So the Diamond is back in its case and set aside for other activities.
As for my previous HAM operations, I only operated on 2m from a handheld and I am setting up a station in the car instead of CB where I find 2m better. At home, I exclusively run on 10 and 15m and that in DIGI mode. I don't even know who I would chat with on 2m. Javorina, even though it used to work, had no one on it. And I didn't have my HAM license back then. So unfortunately, 2m is out, but SSB on 10m anytime and you get an eQSL right away. It must reach Považany even on a piece of coaxial.

This antenna needs ground to work properly, it is a typical GP ground pole. It can also be used on a mast, but you need to add 'ground' radials or counterpoises in lengths of lambda/4 for all bands it operates on. I will have it precisely on the roof, but I have the advantage that it is fully metalized, but I will still pull those counterpoises to it.
If you have a family house and a garden, it will look good on that land.

And one last question. I took the HAM exams this year in April and there was a man from Povazie. Is that you??

If something is necessary, my contact is Peter.fidler@azet.sk or fidlerp on SKYPE. I sent my mobile number via private messages.
      73 Peter

PS: As for 2m/70cm, it is not 100% excluded that the diamond will not go back on the roof over time, currently I don't seem to 'use' these bands and I'm replacing the FT-897D with the FT-450AT which is purely HF. But over time, some dualband from the car will probably also go on my desk. We'll see.

A detailed description of this antenna is in Amateur Radio A11/1988. It describes various grounding methods, tuned radials, etc. Just to add, I don't know if you have this link.
An interesting and simple is the dual-band version HF2V 80m/40m – it only uses those two lower coils and one 200pF capacitor.

Thank you for the information. I have AR 11/1988 in PDF format. It's great there.

      OM6AAM,

Thank you too, it is really well described there.

However, I do not have good news from the Russian yet. No one has contacted me yet about the order and shipping.

      Peter,

Maybe he will still respond, let's wait.
Otherwise, if you're only looking for those VN capacitors, I've seen those disc (gray, Russian) several times at various HAM meetings. Last time in Borovce, Martin ok2ez was selling them. Try writing to him, you can find his contact through Google to see what capacities he has.

Hello everyone, use a coaxial cable instead of a capacitor, RG58 is sufficient for up to 300W, RG213 can withstand up to 2000W. The capacity per meter is always known for coax. Every decent manufacturer provides it. If you want a table, I will send it. Bye, Vlasta OK1DNQ and my email is ok1dnq at seznam.cz.
