Hi HAM’S, does anyone have a schematic for the tested digimodem powered from CAT to FT817, THANK YOU

      Hi!

      – try to write me more about where and under what circumstances you want to operate digital modes on FT 817. (permanent QTH or portable)
      – whether you want to solder, or would rather pay a Chinese kid who will do it for a few dollars

I would start with the theory here:

      http://www.ok1cjb.cz/index.php?opti he =com_c he tent&view=category&id=37:3-530a&Itemid=50&layout=default

      – As for CAT, it is not worth speculating, because the price of the connector is higher:

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/172229144413?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

But we will get into the dilemma of whether we have the radio isolated from the computer, or if we don't care.

      – I warn you about Bluetooth, because it steals power from the connector and tends to be unstable. (the radio freezes and needs to be reset)

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAT-To-Bluetooth-Adapter-Conveter-For-yaesu-FT-817-FT-857-FT-897-FT817-Black-/222151347943?hash=item33b9408ee7:g:W74AAOSwOVpXXnx5

      – I also got such a device for Raspberry, it is basically everything in one, the question is whether it is suitable for portable due to the number of cables.

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-PC-linker-Adapter-yaesu-FT-817-FT-857-897-ICOM-CW-DATA-CAT-Radio-connector-/262362005978?hash=item3d15fe81da:g:GPgAAOSwZtJW~O7E

      – And to perfection, a USB sound card is still missing.

      – or low cost

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/Earph he e-Stereo-Jack-3-5mm-Mic-5-1-USB-Audio-Adapter-Sound-Card-External-/152392959698?hash=item237b5406d2:g:UQ0AAOSw2xRYdwNK

I have long used my first modem with two transformers and two trim pots, PTT with a direct connection to the radio connector, which I switch with RTS signal from the COM port.

      Rado OM8BU

      PS.
And be careful not to burn your radio...
One watt is quite little for digital, and it's frustrating when the counterpart does not receive.
I’d rather give up on it than have to bake capacitors for higher power in the amplifier 😉

Hi, if I can advise you from my own experience, try a professional product, you will save time and maybe even nerves. After problems with grounds, I decided on a product from Ivanka pri Dunaji, you can choose from the USA or another country.

Hi, I have tested the microham digikeyer with FT-817, the advantage is one USB cable, isolated ground, tuned program with the possibility of multiple virtual COM ports directly in the Microham program. The disadvantage is the price 🙂 And it steals power from the ACC connector even when the radio is off.

I have a BT module for the FT-817, and as OM8BU pointed out, it steals power from the ACC connector, even when the radio is off. Stability depends on the opponent and SW, with my NB ok, with handroid and pocket RXTX it is worse.

Tried also two audio trafka with trimmers and condition two optocells and biz around for PTT and SQ even in the days when the COM port was normal on the PC, with FT857, but that is certainly the same from the point of view of the connection. Here, however, it depends on how you use the sound box and the transformer, frequency dependence, impedance adjustment... USB / 232 and USB / audio converters can be used here.

For the connection of FT817 with PC / NB which is grounded on PE 230VAC and this ground is also on the USB / audio connectors, I would definitely solve the separation of the ground, the radio is not the cheapest and a lot of problems with hum and hum have been solved.

Try looking at the advertisement on ham radio.sk. Milan OM3TPN advertises them for FT817,857,897. I bought from him for the TS480 and additionally the cabling for the TF817 at an affordable price. Satisfaction so far.

I have been using such an interface for years (about 9 years):

Dano, it's okay for control, but it doesn't transmit digimodes 😉

… yes, you are right, I have something like this for those digi modes:

Note – instead of transformers, I have opto-isolators…

The basis is for OM0AML to say what he needs, on what HW, for what SW and modes, what options and knowledge he has for construction. Without that, further development of this thread may not bear fruit 😉

If from USB, it is better to use USB to TTL, eliminating the conversion from 232 to TTL.

Thank you for the answers, for me construction is not a problem (some of my products from yesterday https://www.facebook.com/pg/Topas-Avi he ics-104436562965048/photos/?ref=page_internal)
The setup should be 'very very portable', meaning ft817 + tuner ldg z-817 I have plus some inverter. As an antenna, about 10m of coax plus balun and Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 tablet...

Matus, if you want it for the tablet, then for audio and PTT something like http://9m2pju.blogspot.sk/2012/05/droidpsk-psk- he -your-android-ph he e.html

      Done: http://www.wolphi.com/interface/

Alternatively, if you make an adjustment in the radio, you can use VOX in the radio, and just an audio connection and adjustment of resistive dividers that you can fit into the connector. http://www.geekshed.co.uk/adding-vox-to-dig-m from e-on-ft-817/
But then be careful what microphone you use; it must disconnect audio if you are not transmitting, otherwise it will go in parallel and add surrounding audio to 'digi'. The same goes the other way; if you make an adjustment, audio from the data connector will mix with audio from the microphone. Also, be careful with notification sounds, ringing, etc.; everything will go 'into the ether.'

CAT if you use it on the tablet then via BT:
      https://www.yo3ggx.ro/btcat/FT8x7_DIY_Bluetootth_CAT_interface_v1.pdf
      http://blog.ok1cdj.com/2012/11/bluetooth-cat-PRO-ft-8×7.html , done on ebay.

I have 'in development' audio transfer and CAT via BT, separate BT modules from ebay + SMD stuff around. CAT resolved, waiting for BT audio module.

Yeah, that's great, thank you, also thanks for the QSO on Sunday; you probably won't share that BT easily 🙂 I'll cobble it together according to 9M2PJU, but I still don't understand why it uses RJ45 mic input instead of DATA and ACC; that wolphylink uses ACC.

SSB without the above-mentioned adjustment does not work through the data connector. Therefore RJ… Wolphi uses it for PSK, SSTV, etc.
If it works and BT works, I'll put it on my pages.

For digital modes, a significantly better cable will be needed; audio is compressed and decompressed with a lossy codec during BT transmission, so some digital modes will certainly be affected by the distortion of the original signal. Especially for those that also work with the signal in the sum. RTTY and 1k2 AFSK will probably get through this; others need to be tested, and it will depend on the version of BT. I still don't know how it will behave with atmospheric disturbances, whether that BT audio module has some automatic sound level control.
I am implementing Bluetooth for voice transmission, APRS, DTMF decoding, two-way audio transmission over a few meters. I will use an old Android phone without data and SIM, small, light, also good as a backup for the mountain. I have not yet tried digimodes from portable and I do not see a reason for that, those about 50 connections can be made in 90 minutes even now with poor conditions, the last two omff mainly on 80m, because of contests and a large band of silence on 40m...
