3Y0K Bouvet and QO-100 satellites
Founding member and vice president of AMSAT-HB, Wolfgang Sidler HB9RYZ, will personally participate in the 3Y0K DX expedition scheduled for January 2026. The island lies approx 1700 km from the coast of Antarctica and is among the most sought-after countries. Mask, apparently Bouvet has never been activated via satellite before! Wolfgang informed, that Bouvet will also be activated via satellite QO-100.
Bouvet
Bouvet Island is uninhabited, a volcanic island located in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, about 1 700 km from the coast of Antarctica. It is one of the most isolated places in the world and belongs to Norway, which declared it a nature reserve. Bouvet is covered with ice and its harsh climatic conditions, as well as extreme isolation, make access difficult. For scientists, the island is a significant challenge for adventurers and radio amateurs, because expeditions there tend to be very demanding. Our doc states 24 expedition projects at Bouvet (without the last one 3Y0J). Some projects have not passed the planning stage, others did not reach the island or had to end the expedition early. Activation via satellite on the Dokufunk site is not yet documented.
We already wish Wolfgang a lot of success and fantastic experiences at Bouvet!
