World QRP records

You know what the current QRP records are? Someone will beat them at all? All records turn into range with respect to 1W power.

This question was addressed by Richard G6GGE/SO5GB based on two listener reports of the SP5ANU beacon with a power of 500uW on the frequency 3.588 MHz. Bill Tippet W4ZV is the holder on the 80m band, which captured the N2XE beacon with a power of only 27uW! Converted to 1W, it comes out to roughly 30 billions of kilometers….

However, experts know, that higher bands are more suitable for long-distance connections. KL7YU and W7BVV have a unique performance, who made QSOs from Alaska to Oregon (approx. 2500km) with a power of 1uW still in the year 1970!

However, the absolute record holder is WB8ELK. Fifteen years ago he was able to make a QSO with K7IRK, which used a simple transmit with a power of 720nW. The distance covered is almost 2400 km. However, according to reports, the signal is amplified (1,56your) K7IRK also picked up WA6YPE from California.

A few recordings of weak signals can be found at http://users.vnet.net/btippett/topband_sounds.htm (all the way down).
