Target: the aim is to promote the use of (very) low powers and narrowband modes on KV. To this end, events will be held from November 2003 to April 2004. Each will be on a Sunday between 17 and 18 UTC, with the mark consisting of five characters forming a code transmitted by slow CW. The challenge for all participating radio amateurs will be to accept the code word.
About narrowband operation: in order to improve the signal/noise ratio, it is advantageous to narrow the width of the transmitted band to less than 1 Hz. This can be achieved by connecting the audio output of the receiver with a PC sound card, where special FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) software narrows the bandwidth to fractions of Hz. More information about this technology can be obtained at http://www.QSL.net/ON7YD/136narro.htm
Time: from 17.00 to 18.00 UTC
Frequencies:
- 80m: 3585.0kHz
- 40 m: 7037.0 kHz
- 30 m: 10,140.0 kHz

Fashions:
- CW at 0.4 WPM (QRSS3)
- dot 3 seconds long
- comma 9 seconds long
- space dot/dot or dot/comma 3 seconds
- character gap 9 seconds
- word gap 21 seconds
Code: consists of five characters in the range A-Z and 0-9. For example, AMTOR, MORSE, 3GLK5, XTA24, etc.

| 24-04-2004 | 10.140.0 kHz | ON5EX | JO10UX | 30 mW |
Sessions start at exactly 17.00 UTC. The broadcast text consists of a tag and a code word that is repeated until 18.00 UTC. For example: ON4AXW AMTOR AMTOR AMTOR AMTOR
Income report: please send messages to on5ex@pandora.be within one week of each event. A valid message must contain:
- Your brand / SWL number
- Your WW locator
- The code word you received
Additional information such as a detailed description of your device is welcome.

The score: is calculated as the distance covered (in km) multiplied by the number of correctly received characters and divided by the power (in watts). Distance from locators and is rounded to kilometers. A minimum of two code characters is required to be received.
For example:
Broadcast station locator: JO10UX
Listener Locator: JO11PE
Power: 10 mW (=0.01W)
Number of characters received: 3
QRB: 37 km
Score: 37 x 3 / 0.01 = 11,100 points
The final score is determined by the sum of points from all actions. However, it is not necessary to participate in all events. Interim results will be published on UBA website. On the page, first select the language, then click on HF and then on QRP.
Diplomas: will be received by all participants. Operators who achieve above-standard results will receive a special award.
Further experiments: all radio amateurs are welcome for similar experiments that take place on Sundays. More information on the already mentioned UBA website.
