NASA has released an update on yesterday's activity on the ISS. Here's the latest from Armand, N8IGJ:
On 11/04/2011, Dmitriy carried out hardware setup and trial activation of the TEKh-43 Radioskaf-B "Kedr" microsatellite in the Poisk module, by connecting it to the Orlan battery, and performed a check on the on-board TRX 430 MHz. The microsatellite will be activated aboard the station today, April 12, 2011, the day the world celebrates the anniversary of the first human flight into space. As soon as Arissat-1 is activated, it will broadcast 25 greetings in 15 languages, images of the Earth, telemetry data and also historical audio recordings. After 50 years since Gagarin's flight, all radio amateurs from Earth orbit can hear the famous "They went" again.
A few explanations to the previous text: ARISSat-1, RadioSkaf-V, RadioSkaf-B, Kedr - these are all names for the same satellite. Despite all the information, it looks like Arissat-1 will be activated only today and for one day only. It is uncertain whether the satellite will transmit SSTV pictures of Earth because it is inside the ISS 🙂
ARISSat-1 transmits only on 2 m, but the radio station on board the ISS will carry out retransmission by the on-board TRX on 437.55 MHz.
73, Petr
