Palau
Palau is a small island nation in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, located in Micronesia. It consists of more than 300 islands, only some of which are permanently inhabited. Palau is known above all for its untouched nature, crystal clear water and rich underwater life, which makes it one of the most sought-after destinations for divers in the world. Coral reefs, shipwrecks from the Second World War and the legendary Medusa Lake are just some of the natural unique features of this country.
The history of Palau is varied – the territory was successively claimed by Spain, Germany, Japan and after World War II was administered by the United States. Palau gained independence in 1994. Today, it is a modern state with an emphasis on environmental protection, which is often referred to as a leader in the field of marine protection.
