The seventh stage of the Short Listening Period (SLP) competition, which took place on September 10-11, 2016, again brought very interesting results and significant movements in the overall ranking of the year.
The winner of the 7th stage was Sjuk Veenstra (NL6904) with a great score of 9877 points. Sjuk thus confirmed his stable form and significantly consolidated his position as the leader in the overall rating. Johan Heus (NL9723) finished in second place with a performance of 5280 points, who has long been among the most active participants of the year. The third place was taken by Alex Gorbunov (US-Q-73) with 5046 points, which is his best result after a long break in the previous stages.
Other competitors also performed excellently - Kees Schout (NL294) with 3822 points and Helmut Grund (DE2HUG) with a result of 2552 points. The surprise of the stage was the participation of Gennadiya Drozdov (UA3182SWL), who scored a very solid 1386 points at his start. Dusan Hanak (OK2-9329), Aleksandr Boyko (US-Q-2115), Marc Stinkens (ONL4638) and Oleg Ivanchenko (UB50734221) also got into the scoring.
In the current standings of the 2016 competition, Sjuk Veenstra has a significant lead with a total of 63,188 points. In second and third place, there is a close fight between Johan Heus (39,271 points) and Marc Stinkens (39,098 points). The difference between them is minimal and with two stages remaining the battle for second place overall will be extremely exciting.
