Nuku Hiva – Marquees and radio amateurs
Nuku Hiva, the largest island of the Marquesas in the South Pacific, is an exotic and highly prized destination for radio amateurs. This French overseas region, located approximately 1,500 km northeast of Tahiti, uses the prefix FO/A and is among the most sought-after DX entities.

For most radio amateurs, the connection with the Marquesas is a real catch. The islands are far from the main centers of civilization, making them a rare target for DX connections. Local ham activity is limited, so DX expeditions to Nuku Hiva are always a big event in the ham world.
The geographical location of the islands in the tropical Pacific creates specific conditions for the propagation of radio waves. The best connections are achieved on the lower bands, especially on 20 and 40 meters, where the signal is stronger and more stable.
Nuku Hiva attracts not only with its radio rarity, but also with its natural beauty. Dramatic volcanic peaks, deep bays and rich Polynesian culture create an unforgettable atmosphere. For radio amateurs, everyone is QSO with FO/A from Markéz a valuable treasure in their DX collection.
