Sazan Island
Sazan Island is the largest Albanian island, located at the entrance to the Adriatic Sea, near the city of Vlorë. It has an area of approximately 5.7 km² and a strategic location that was used for military purposes in the past. It was under Italian control during World War II and later served as a base for the Albanian and Soviet navies. The island is known for its rugged coastline with cliffs and caves that create unique scenery. Today, Sazan is part of the Karaburun-Sazan National Park, and the area is popular with divers due to its shipwrecks and rich marine fauna. Most of the territory is still uninhabited, which contributes to the preservation of the natural environment. Sazan is accessible by boat and attracts tourists interested in history, nature and exploring former military buildings.
