In February and March 2026, the amateur radio community can look forward to a significant DX expedition J51A. A team of experienced operators Ben (DA1DX, ex DL6FBL), Win (DK9IP), Andree (DL8LAS), Uli (DM5EE) and Lutz (DM6EE) – all active members Bavarian contest Club – will operate from the area Bijagos Archipelago in Guinea-Bissau, which belongs to IOTA groups AF-020.
Attractive and sought after DXCC entity
Guinea-Bissau is among the most sought-after DXCC entities according to Club Log - currently ranked 85th place worldwide, with demand being particularly high especially in Asia. The most requested mode is Digital modes, followed by CWaSSB. The J51A expedition will be active exclusively on SSB, CW and FT8 (MSHV software).
Top technology and antenna park J51A
The team will operate with five completely independent stations, each consisting of a transceiver yaesu FT-DX10 and a power amplifier RF-POWER RF2K-S. The antenna equipment is extremely extensive:

The entire system is complemented by VA6AM triplexers,VA6AM/4O3A band filtersa sieťové logovanie pomocouDXLog in the cable gigabit network. The total weight of the equipment is approximately 500 kg, all will be transported by plane as oversized luggage.
Ideal QTH, but without electricity
The expedition location is directly on the northern coast of the island, with a completely unobstructed view over the sea to all major areas of DX operation. However, on site there is no public electricity network, therefore the team will operate 24/7 on generators. Possible signal outages may be related to their maintenance or refueling.

Logging, QSL and online services J51A
The expedition plans to use its own Starlink satellite connection, which should provide online services such as Club Log Livestream,online log, statistics and OQRS. QSL management is conducted exclusively via Club Log OQRS, while the combination with PayPal ensures quick confirmation in LoTW and subsequently also paper QSL card.
