A few days ago we brought you a post about the new conditions of the SNP Race, today let's take a look at history, specifically a year back...
33 diaries came for evaluation. 18 dailies from Slovak stations and 15 from Czech and Moravian stations. Another 25 stations also took part in the race, but did not send newspapers. 11 of these stations could have placed quite nicely if they had bothered to send the logs.

In category A1 (QRO-CW) a total of 6 stations competed, in category A2 (QRO-SSB) there were 8 stations, in category A3 (QRO-MIX) there were 15 stations and in categories B1 (QRP-CW) and B3 (QRP-MIX) had two stations each. Only category B2 (QRP-SSB) was not occupied at all. The age of the participants ranged from 30 to 70 years. There were only 15 Slovak districts on the band: BAD, BAE, BBY, BRE, DST, KED, KEO, KRU, LVC, MAL, MAR, TNC, TOP, ZIL and ZVO. There were also 15 Czech and Moravian districts. Only in category A3 there were enough participants (minimum 5) to qualify for a prize in their category. So the prize for first place in OM was won by OM3LO, Tibor Ledvényi, and in OK, Štěpán Martínek receives the prize for OK2EC. The prize for their success in the SNP Race is a 5-day stay with half board for the prize winner at the Klačianska Magura cottage.
The cottage is in Mala Fatra in the insurgent region of Turiec. They must choose this stay by the end of 2003, otherwise it will be forfeited in favor of the Magura Bears. If, for some reason, they cannot use up their stay at Magura, they will receive "compensation" in the amount of Sk 1,000. Viktor Chilo, OM6ACV, will coordinate the information about the planned stay and available places on Magura, who will connect you with the cottage. Viktorov's tel. no. is 043 4224252. If all the stations in the race had sent diaries, several could have received the prizes.
Thank you all for your comments, suggestions and comments. It is very difficult to please everyone when it comes to the terms of the competition.

In terms of the quality of the competition journals, the level was quite low. I had to reevaluate all but two diaries. Logbook forms that are 40 years old and not suitable for this race make the evaluator's job difficult. Logs that are barely readable and missing basic data, logs that have been raped by various evaluation computer programs, logs that have been mangled by the Internet, logs that cannot be read due to blackened copies of various old forms, logs with no address, name or sender's mark are truly a disgrace to radio amateurs. By the way, did you all know that log forms for this race can be ordered from the OM3KFV radio club by sending a self-addressed envelope. Only three journals arrived on the correct form. In the next year of the SNP Race, please send diaries on the required forms or in a format that corresponds to the international standard.

Due to the fact that many participants violated the spirit of the race, we are changing the competition conditions and canceling the premium points for QTH. See the new conditions in Rádiožurnál and on Slovak information boards of computer networks. Many participants sent journals as if they had never done it before in their lives. There is no need to write the date and zone in the connection log, because not in every line. They are already predetermined in the conditions of the race. Posted code is usually not written to every line of the log. It is written only in the first line together with the sent report and serial number QSO. After that, only the QSO number and the report are written, if it is different from the one in the first line. Unwritten reports in the next lines are considered 599 or 59. Two stages are written on two sheets of the diary. One QSO and the necessary codes in one line. Before evaluating the diary, read the competition conditions carefully once more.
I wish you much success in the next year of the SNP Race. This race is perfect for organizing expeditions to sparsely occupied districts, which will be of great interest in the race. In addition, broadcasting from the field QTH /p will place you in the special category of "brave adventurers", which we will evaluate separately. After all, our parents in the SNP also fought in difficult field conditions. It is enough to go to various SNP monuments throughout Slovakia, to castles and other interesting places, and the category of "brave adventurers" will be the largest in the race.
