First, I want to thank everyone for the large number of nominations and patience while we published the decision.
We received a total of 24 nominations (in alphabetical order): jDc (Jára Cimrman), OM1YL, OM3AA,OM3CQF, OM3CV, OM3JW, OM3LU, OM3MM, OM3NA, OM3PA, OM3QQ, OM4TQ, OM7DX, OM8MM and OM8YL. It is very gratifying that there are so many radio amateurs whose work is appreciated by their colleagues.

Two of the nominees received four nominations each, so we decided to award the title OM HAM of the year 2009 ex aequo to Jozef Ivan OM3NA (in memoriam) and Petr Martišek OM3PA.
Some nominations were very brief, others were explained in detail, e.g.:
I propose to appoint Petr Martiška, OM3PA, member of OTC SARA, representative and long-time member of the radio club OM3KAP, as the amateur of the year 2009, in the year of the club's 60th anniversary. Why Petra?
He brought up many young radio amateurs, he takes care of the club and its prosperity in individual activities for many years, he is the soul of the team, which was able to build top equipment, which steadily improves them, which also achieves leading positions in world radio amateur competitions. More accurate data is available on the website. Peter is definitely among those who deserve this honorary title. His friendly attitude towards younger colleagues and his willingness to help those who need help at any time should also be considered positive.
Hi Viliam, I am sending you my proposal – Jozef Ivan EX OM3NA, zial in memoriam! I can hardly name Joz's merits here, because I could write until morning. After all, the most important thing is that he was a person with a big heart, who was always happy to help, always made a good mood. I will mention his countless FB results in contests at KV and VHF , was a perfect telegrapher, simply "OM3 Najkrasi Amater" - OM3NA! Perhaps there is no amateur in OK/OM who would not know him!
Hi Viliam, you usually only realize what someone did when it's too late. I would like to propose HAM of the year 2009 to Jozef Ivan OM3NA for many years of active radio amateur activity. More info:

moje meno je …. a touto cestou (a na základe odporúčania OM0AAO) podávam návrh na udelenie prestížneho ocenenia OM HAM of 2009 … – Jánovi Horskému z Piešťan. Nasleduje stručné zdôvodnenie môjho návrhu vo forme chronologického záznamu:
– Ján Horský was born on July 28, 1933 in Bratislava
– started his first activity as a registered amateur radio listener on December 22, 1949 under the sign OK3-8635
- since 1951 he has been broadcasting from the club station OK3OBP in Bratislava as a responsible operator. He led a circle of young radio amateur pioneers. Under this brand, he won the race for the ČAV (Czechoslovak amateur radio transmitters) silver cup.
– On August 31, 1952, he starts broadcasting under his own brand OK3MM, when he gets his own concession as a 19-year-old
– On December 20, 1954, he receives the certificate "Radio telegraph operator, class I"
– in 1954, during his basic military service, he triumphantly won the regional debates in Pilsen with a performance in the reception of 170 telegraph signals per minute without error
– in June 1964, he leaves for Cuba with his family, where he works as a service technician. There he passed the exams, obtained a license from the relevant ministry and from June 22, 1965 he broadcasted under the brand name CO2BO. He was the first foreigner to obtain a broadcasting license in Cuba.
– participated in many races in Cuba. He achieved his greatest success in the worldwide ARRL race, where he scored 1004532 points and became the absolute world champion. So far, no one has broken this record, and it appears on the ARRL website even after almost 43 years as unbroken! For this success, after returning from Cuba, he was awarded the Master of Sports of Zväzarm.
– under the CO2BO/CO4 brand, he undertook an expedition to Isla de Pinos from September 30 to October 2, 1966. The island is approx. 35 miles south of Cuba and special permission from the military is required for the trip. He flew there together with Ado Kučer (CM2BL), a telegraphist from the embassy. After two days due to hurricane ALMA, they had to leave the island as part of the evacuation - on the last plane to Havana...
– after returning home, he concentrated on winning the first place in the DX ranking of Czechoslovak radio amateurs. He did it on February 10, 1973 with 333 countries!
– then he devoted himself to his own construction of transmitting and receiving KV equipment, as well as work on ultra-short waves via satellites
– in 1993 its brand was changed to OM3MM. Currently, he safely leads the ranking with the countries he worked with and which have been confirmed by the so-called QSL-tickets. According to the official record of the ARRL Honor Roll from August 2009, with a status of 338/384 countries, it is approximately in the 6th to 8th place in the global ranking from the total number of over 2 million active radio amateurs (338 valid countries as of today, the rest of the 384 are already canceled countries).
- at the end, just the well-known "icing on the cake" - in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, no one has a chance to catch up, because countries such as the Belgian Congo, French Indochina, Tibet and the like have long since disappeared. I think that I can safely say that in the person of... - Ján Horský - a large piece of not only our but also worldwide amateur radio history is concentrated. Based on the above, I am convinced that Ján Horský deserves the prestigious OM HAM award of the year, and I thank everyone in advance for supporting this right idea!
