Organizátori prestížnej súťaže CQ WW DX contest oznámili, že v jesennej edícii roku 2025 dôjde k zmenám v pravidlách. Most of the modifications are rather minor in nature, but one of them is fundamental – zrušenie kategórie EXPLORER.

EXPLORER category - goal and reality
Kategória EXPLORER bola zavedená v roku 2021 s cieľom podporiť rádioamatérov, ktorí chceli experimentovať s internetovo prepojenými stanicami and new technologies. Its mission was to enable participants to "explore" new ways of operating, engage creative ideas and test innovative solutions in station design and competition strategies.
They could join this category jednotlivci aj tímy – teda existovali varianty Single-Operator Explorer aj Multi-Operator Explorer.
However, in practice it turned out that the intention of the organizers was not completely clearly understood:

Single-operátorské Explorer stanice boli často iba portable stanice alebo diaľkovo ovládané stanice z jedného miesta, which could also start in the regular Single-Operator category.

Naopak, multi-operator tímy decided to make full use of the new category and created stanice s viacerými lokalitami prepojenými internetom, čo umožnilo zapojiť viac operátorov na diaľku.
Vplyv pandémie a skúsenosti z CQ WPX Contestu
Počas pandémie Covid-19 bola v CQ WPX Contest zavedená podobná kategória s názvom Multi-Distributed. It allowed multi-operator teams to compete without physical contact and all positions could be controlled remotely.
Táto kategória sa ukázala ako veľmi úspešná, pričom zaznamenala growing participation and strong competition z celého sveta.
The main change from 2025
Based on the experience gained, the organizers decided that from CQ WW DX Contest 2025:

The EXPLORER category will be completely cancelled.

A new category Multi-Transmitter-Distributed will be created, ktorá bude vychádzať z úspešného modelu Multi-Distributed z CQ WPX Contestu.
This new category will have rules detailed in pravidlách CQ WW, konkrétne v časti Section V.4 na oficiálnom webe: cqww.com/rules.htm.
What it means for participants

Rádioamatéri, ktorí doteraz využívali kategóriu Explorer pre single-op prevádzku, will henceforth apply to the standard Single-Operator categories.

Multi-op tímy they will be able to continue connected long-distance operations, but already in a new official category Multi-Transmitter-Distributed, ktorá poskytne jasné pravidlá a transparentné hodnotenie.
Organizátori veria, že táto zmena prinesie väčšiu prehľadnosť v pravidlách a zároveň umožní lepšie reflektovať modern trends in amateur radio technology and remote control of stations.
CQ WW DX Contest patrí medzi najväčšie a najprestížnejšie rádioamatérske súťaže na svete a tieto zmeny naznačujú, že organizátori sa snažia udržať krok s technologickým pokrokom a zároveň zachovať fairness and competition.
