Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic Továrenská no. 7, P.O. BOX 18, 810 06 Bratislava 16: TÚ SR published a proposal for a general permit for the operation of radio equipment PMR 446
Press release
The Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic (TÚ SR) has published on its website a draft general permit for the operation of radio equipment for voice communication referred to as PMR 446, which work in the frequency band 446.000 – 446.100 MHz. These devices are very popular abroad. In the recent past, the PMR 446 band was used by the Department of Defense, which was originally supposed to release it after 2005. However, the Department of Defense released the band earlier, and TÚ SR therefore prepared a draft general permit, which will be published in the Gazette. After publication, a 30-day period for commenting on the proposal will expire.
This permit will authorize natural and legal persons to set up and operate the mentioned facilities on the territory of the Slovak Republic without any additional permit under the conditions set out in the general permit.
The permit will apply exclusively to devices with a built-in antenna. The maximum permitted power will be 500 mW ERP.
The devices will have to meet the technical requirements according to § 3 of Government Regulation no. 443/2001 Coll., which establishes details of technical requirements and conformity assessment procedures for radio equipment and terminal telecommunications equipment.
Equipment operated on the basis of this authorization shall not be entitled to protection against interference by other equipment authorized to operate on the specified frequencies.
It will be forbidden to make any mechanical or electrical modifications to the devices, or to connect external antennas.
Broadcasting devices are used e.g. during assembly, geodetic work, on construction sites, when securing sports events and wherever it is necessary to ensure connection over relatively short distances.
You can find the draft general permit at http://www.teleoff.gov.sk/Diskusie/PMR.html
In Bratislava on June 4, 2003.
