In the morning of 7/22/2004, as soon as I woke up, I turned on the transceiver at 14 MHz to listen to the conditions. Due to the fact that I don't have a good antenna on 14MHz, I could only hear strong stations... after tuning for a while, I felt a strong signal. As I was tuning the receiver, I tuned in to the frequency on which Zdenek was broadcasting VE6MV with an incredibly strong signal... after listening for a while I found out that he was broadcasting as OM1MV/M - he was making a connection to VE6. When he completed the connection, I immediately called him and learned that he was about 300m away from me as the crow flies - a little behind the housing estate where I live. I was just about to go to work (for a part-time job) and since it's almost down the road, I stopped by so I could say hi to him in person and look at his amazing antenna on his car. After all, such an opportunity is not every day. In a few minutes I was already at the place where the white favorite with the OM1MV brand was parked.
OM1MV/m
Zdeno ešte dokončil spojenie s DX stanicou, vystúpil z auta a podal mi ruku.
We chatted together, he showed me the transceiver and the antenna, which could be adapted to 80m, 40m, 20m using replacement coils as needed... just a great mobile phone.
It was an honor for me to meet Zden in person, because whenever there is an opportunity to meet a DX operator it is exceptional and less likely than with someone from OM - maybe 90% of DX operators from the world I will never have the opportunity to see in person.
Sincerely, 73 & VY DX de Peter Mikulášik, OM5PM
