The lowest dry place on Earth
The lowest dry place on Earth is located in the Dead Sea area, at the border of Israel, Palestine and Jordan. The level of this salt lake lies approximately 411 meters below the level of the world ocean, which makes it a unique natural environment. The Dead Sea is known for its high salinity, which is so intense that practically no fish or larger aquatic organisms live in it. Thanks to this concentration of salt, people easily float on the surface without the need to swim. The surroundings are rich in mineral mud, which is used in cosmetics and healing procedures. The region is also important for archeology and history, as the famous Dead Sea Scrolls were found in nearby caves. The Dead Sea thus unites nature, science and culture.
