I'm sure you all know it - you're trying to figure out a weak signal when you suddenly hear 9+30 here. Catastrophe, thunder. For ten, maybe twenty seconds, he watches the tuner's futile attempt to tune the final stage or adjust the antenna with the tuner. It's a disease. The tuner twists the knobs not knowing how to tune the tuner or does not have pre-marked positions on the scale. What for?
Remember:
- the best adjustment knob is no knob at all
- study the manual for the tuner - a solid manufacturer indicates how to properly tune the tuner
- learn how to tune the tuner when the bands are empty
- it is not necessary to tune the tuner every time for small changes in frequency
- make a tuning table or mark the optimal setting according to bands, or even band segments if needed, on the scales near the knobs
- use as little power as possible for tuning = less QRM and longer tuner life
