Cape Verde
Cape Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an archipelago of ten volcanic islands located approximately 350 miles off the west coast of Africa. This contiguous territorial unit has an area of 1,557 square miles and a population of nearly 562,000. The former Portuguese colony gained independence in 1975 and today is considered one of the most democratic states in Africa.
Santiago is the largest island, where the capital Praia is located. Due to the lack of natural resources, tourism is a key sector of the economy. The islands attract visitors with white sandy beaches, eternal sunshine and a unique Creole culture.
Cape Verde is an extremely interesting destination for radio amateurs. According to the ranking Clublog are ranked 215th most searched DXCC entity. São Vicente Island is home to the famous D4B race station at Monte Verde, which set a new D4DX world record in 2002 during the WPX SSB competition. Due to its advantageous geographical position in the central Atlantic, Cape Verde provides excellent radio connections with America, Europe and Africa, which makes it a sought-after location for DX expeditions.
