Tibor OM5NU informed us that the 4th edition of the "bible of operation on the lower bands" - Low Band DXing by John Devolder, ON4UN, has been published.
ON4UN, a legendary radio amateur and author of many technical manuals, has provided valuable advice for DXing on low bands such as 160m and 80m. Its approach focuses on antenna optimization, noise minimization and precise operation in demanding conditions. For successful low-band DXing, he emphasizes the importance of selecting an appropriate antenna location and configuration that maximizes gain and directional sensitivity while maintaining low interference. ON4UN also points out that the quality of the connection depends not only on the performance, but also on the silence of the receiver and the correct use of time windows for propagation at night and during changes of seasons. Practical tips include using resonant wire antennas, verticals with counterweights, and fine-tuning the receiver's input. His methods combine propagation theory with practical experience, making it possible to reach distant DX stations even on the less popular low frequency bands.
