AMSAT-UK has announced the FunCube project, which will be a small amateur radio satellite measuring 10cm x 10cm x 10cm and weighing less than 1kg. On board will be a linear transponder of 70cm/2m with a power of up to 1W. The goal is to implement a satellite from which it will be possible to receive telemetric data even with simple equipment and a minimum of experience - for example, non-amateur students.
The characteristics of the satellite should be similar to, for example, the popular VO-52. The orbit synchronous with the Sun should enable three morning and three evening orbits during which it will be possible to establish connections.
AMSAT-UK has over 350 members and in the past they have already participated in the implementation of ten satellites.
