V roku 2009 sa zavádza nová kategória Xtreme, whose goal is to enable the use of new technologies, including remote RX stations controlled via the Internet, computer decoders of multiple signals at once (e.g. skimmer).
Okrem povolenia technológií, ktoré žiadny iný svetový contest nepovoľuje, je v tejto kategórii aj nevšedné bodovanie. This consists of two parts: points for connections (as in any other category) and points for innovation. The value of this part of the score is decided by the CQWW panel of judges.
