Kenwood TS-990

In about a month, Kenwood's new flagship will go on sale, TS-990. This KV+6m TCVR will be available in two power versions, 50W a 200W. 50V MOSFET VRF150MP transistors are used as end elements. Built-in ATU working on all bands.

Dual RX enables dual reception on two different bands. After years, when the first MF was above the bands, manufacturers have rediscovered the benefits of a lower intermediate frequency. In TS-990 it is 8.248MHz. Five roofing filters from 270Hz to 15kHz are supplied as standard. IP3 is +40dBm (without further details). Triple DSP takes care of additional filtering. The oscillator is quite complicated, which by purpose is a VCO/DDS, resp.PLL.

Two TFT displays are intended for displaying data. By using two displays, the manufacturer tries to facilitate precise tuning or better orientation during split operation.
