In the first round of the Short Listening Period (SLP1) competition, which took place on March 1-2, 2008, participants from several countries joined in measuring the listening abilities of SWL listeners. The SLP competition is one of the traditional events for radio amateurs and listeners, where accuracy, endurance, and the ability to capture as many valid connections as possible within a set time limit are evaluated. The preliminary round brought very interesting results, with Bill Smith (W1-7897) taking first place by a large margin. He was followed by Vladimir Ignatov (R3A-847) and Johan Heus(NL9723).
