International championship IARU HF World Championship 2008 brought many interesting performances from the countries of Central Europe, including Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The competition, organized by the International Union of Radio Amateurs (IARU), annually checks the skills of operators in the shortwave bands, evaluating the number of connections made (QSO), multipliers and total point gain. The categories are divided according to the type of operation (CW, SSB, MIX) and performance classes (QRP, Low, High Power), as well as according to the number of operators (Single or Multioperator).
Among the Slovak stations, the OM3KWZ team (OM7AA, OM7RC, OM7LM) took the best place, which in the multi category achieved 319,200 points for 778 connections and 168 multipliers. In the individual categories, OM0A stood out with a gain of 250,173 points, followed by OM7DX with 213,150 points. Among the successful participants there were also OM7AG, OM4DN and OM7PY, who confirmed the stable performance of Slovak operators.
Among the Czech stations, OL8M recorded the highest point gain with an excellent result of 1,871,568 points, which was the most among all participants in the region. A high level was also shown by OL6P, OK3C and OL7T, which were among the best teams in the Multi category.
The results of the year 2008 confirmed that operators from OM and OK countries are among the stable European top. Their technical preparation, tactics and experience from international races once again contributed to the good name of amateur radio in the region.
