Nový rok 2011 priniesol tradičné otvorenie sezóny pre všetkých priaznivcov krátkovlnného posluchu (SWL). Súťaž SWL New Year contest 2011 prilákala pozoruhodne pestrú skupinu účastníkov z rôznych krajín Európy aj zo zámoria, ktorí počas niekoľkých hodín intenzívne mapovali éter a zbierali body za prijaté stanice. Atmosféra bola výborná – podmienky šírenia sa ukázali ako priaznivé, čo umožnilo získať pekné výsledky aj na skromnejšie vybavených pracoviskách.
The winner of this year's round was Vladimir Ignatov R3A-847, who scored an excellent 338 points. His meticulously prepared diary and the accuracy of the received reports confirmed his many years of experience and excellent orientation in shortwave bands. Anton Mandos ONL908 got only slightly less points with a result of 302 points, which took the well-deserved second place. The third place belongs to Marc Stinkens ONL4638 with a gain of 295 points, which proves a very even course in the top three.
In fourth place was Geo De Baets ONL3647 with 255 points, followed by Ioan Iepure YO2-025/CS with 207 points, who was the most successful representative of Eastern Europe. Other positions were taken by Sjuk Veenstra NL6904 with 204 points, Adriaan van den Brink NL10902 with 150 points, Adriano Ficcadenti I0-2046/VT with 139 points, Bill Smith W1-7897 with 94 points and Johan Heus NL9723 with 86 points.
