The hobby of amateur radio rarely appears in mainstream media, which is why the report by Markíza TV in the program Reflex deserves all the more attention. Its main hero is 24-year-old Dominik from Kysuce. For the young generation, which is usually accustomed to a continuous internet connection, Dominik's world represents a fascinating return to pure technology and high-frequency engineering. He was introduced to broadcasting by his grandfather, who served in the war as a radio operator. Today, Dominik is among the top operators who can successfully compete with the world's elite in prestigious international competitions.

What you will learn in the video
The reportage brings to mind the difficulty and specific charm of amateur radio sport through the story of a young Kysuc resident. The viewer will gain a comprehensive overview of how voice or telegraph communication takes place without using the global internet network. Dominik demonstrates working with a radio station and directional antennas in his amateur radio environment, while explaining the principle of azimuth maps necessary for the precise orientation of a yagi-type antenna system towards the opposing station.
The report also maps expedition activities. Dominik recalls the six-hour installation of an antenna on a huge 20-meter-diameter dish located in Sardinia, thanks to which they realized unique connections over a distance of almost 1,900 kilometers to the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In addition, the video shows the range of monitoring capabilities of radio amateurs, including listening to communications from the control center during the launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket, military units, or air traffic.
Details

Dominik's competition statistics are impressive within the community. During one race, he can make 1000 to 1500 QSOs as a solo operator. As part of a collective station, their team achieves up to 9000 connections per weekend. The volume of data generated in this way is then exported to Cabrillo format and sent to the evaluator as a checklog, where the software compares errors in the received entries and generates the so-called UBN error report.

Summary
The Markíza TV report successfully proves that amateur radio is not just a relic of a bygone era. Dominik from Kysuce shows that with a strong will, a family technical background and a deep understanding of HF technology, it is possible to reach the world's top. The combination of operator skills in conditions of massive pile-up with modern spectrum monitoring technologies shows the unceasing potential of this hobby. Dominik's ambition to win the global competition confirms that the Slovak amateur radio school has a strong name in the world.
