Flex-WavelogGate is a desktop application by Oliver, OM0RX, that reads the status of the FlexRadio slice through the program xCAT from DL3LSM and maintains the Wavelog aktuálnu frekvenciu a mód. Vychádza z projektu WaveLogGate vo verzii 2.1.1 (autor Jörg Dorgeist, DJ7NT). Všeobecného Hamlib client was replaced by a small subset of RigCtlD commands supported by xCAT 2.0. The original functionality of WaveLogGate – pairing, forwarding QSO a WebSocket služby – zostáva zachovaná.

Architecture and data flow

The chain is linear: FlexRadio or Maestro, xCAT (CAT and RigCtlD mode), TCP port 4532, Flex-WavelogGate, Wavelog radio API, and finally the Hardware Interfaces page with the Add QSO form. The application queries the active slice every second. It sends frequency or mode changes to Wavelog immediately, restoring stable conditions periodically.
During hunting, only f and m requests are used. Flex-WavelogGate never transmits PTT, does not send split-VFO or power queries, and the Rotator does not direct through xCAT. QSY requests from Wavelog are performed using setter F and optionally M.
| Status in xCAT | Mode in Wavelog |
|---|---|
| USB, LSB | USB, LSB |
| CW, CWR | CW |
| RTTY, RTTYR | RTTY |
| AM, FM, PKTFM | AM, FM |
| Data mode on dial frequency FT8/FT4 | FT8 / FT4 |
| Data mode elsewhere | underlying USB or LSB |
The last line is intentional. CAT cannot reliably determine the application protocol, so the FT8 and FT4 applications recognize it only by standard dial frequencies. Other digital programs log their mode in their own way QSO/ADIF.
Requirements and installation

The application runs on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows (x64, ARM64, 32-bit), and Linux. Linux requires GTK 3 and the corresponding WebKit2GTK – version 4.0 for Ubuntu 22.04 and 4.1 for Ubuntu 24.04. DMG images, exe installers, and .deb and .rpm packages can be downloaded from GitHub Releases; each release includes a SHA256SUMS.txt file. The README also mentions Gatekeeper warnings on macOS and SmartScreen on Windows.
Potrebný je xCAT 2.0 (tested on macOS) for SmartSDR 2.5.1 and newer; xCAT 1.0 is intended for SmartSDR 2.4.9 and older. The source code builds with Go 1.25+, Wails CLI 2.13.0, and the Bun command wails build -clean; tests can be run with go test ./… and go vet ./…
Configuration
Settings are in the file ~/Library/Application Support/Flex-WavelogGate/config.json. On first launch, the existing WaveLogGate configuration is copied; the original remains unchanged. The Wavelog URLs, API key, station ID, radio name, and other profiles are preserved. API keys are in user configuration, not in the source code. Environment variables are not documented in the README.
The default xCAT endpoint is 127.0.0.1:4532. This is the RigCtlD port, not the CAT port 5002. The application also uses these ports:
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 2333 | UDP, input | QSO packets from WSJT-X / Fldigi |
| 54321 | HTTP/HTTPS, input | QSY requests from Wavelog |
| 54322 | WebSocket | local radio status and Wavelog events |
| 54323 | Secure WebSocket | TLS WebSockets |
Deployment procedure and usage in the shack
In xCAT, select the CAT and RigCtlD protocol for the slice and verify the Slice present indication. In Flex-WavelogGate, enter the Wavelog URL, API key, station, and radio name, then enable xCAT Radio Control at 127.0.0.1:4532. In Wavelog, set the new radio as default in Hardware Interfaces, open Add QSO, and wait for one polling interval. For WSJT-X, set the Secondary UDP Server to localhost:2333.
The practical benefit is that the Add QSO form takes the frequency and mode from the radio without manual input, and the radio can be retuned from Wavelog. Do not expose RigCtlD to the internet; the README recommends a trusted LAN or private VPN.
Troubleshooting and contributing
The document docs/XCAT_SETUP.md describes these situations. In case of 'connection refused', check if xCAT is running, if RigCtlD is enabled, and if the host and port are correct. When connecting without data, verify Slice present and the correct station. If CAT port 5002 works elsewhere but the gateway does not, use RigCtlD port 4532. If Wavelog shows an old radio, set it correctly as default. For remote hosts, allow the port in the firewall and verify that xCAT is listening on an accessible address. Read-only connection test: printf 'f\nm\n' | nc 127.0.0.1 4532; the correct response includes the frequency inhertz and then the mode with passband. The location of logs is not specified in the documentation.
