The IC-706MKI has a fan running permanently - when receiving at a lower speed, it starts at full speed after locking. With wear and tear, the fan becomes noisier and noisier. It is advisable to buy a new one and replace it. Even after this operation, however, the noise is disturbing, especially with squelched equipment.
Že je to pomerne nepríjemné, svedčí množstvo úprav. Väčšina je však zložitá. Ak nebudete IC-706 trápiť plným výkonom v FM, RTTY alebo SSTV on KV, a very simple solution is offered. Insert a knocking resistor into the fan inlet, which will reduce the revolutions both during reception and transmission. The procedure is relatively simple.
IC-706 modification procedure
-

IC-706 MKI TCVR turn it off
- Disconnect all cables
- Remove the bottom cover of the IC-706 by loosening the screw cap
- Two wires lead from the circuit board to the fan
- Cut off one of them and connect a 100 ohm trimmer there
- Connect the power cord. Set the power supply to a lower voltage (approx. 11V) so that later the fan starts up under all conditions
- Turn the runner to find the point where the fan stops. Try turning TCVR off and on to see if it starts.
- Determine the resistance value with an ohmmeter and replace the trimmer with a fixed resistance. Do not forget to insulate everything precisely! In my case it was 18 ohm
- Cover the TCVR
The temperature of the IC-706 will rise only imperceptibly, while the noise level during reception will decrease by half, and by a quarter during transmission. I have not registered any problems with overheating.
