The well-known giant Motorola expressed interest in buying a majority stake (up to 80%) of Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. – known among radio amateurs for its Yaesu products. On November 5th, Jun Hasegawa, president and CEO of Vertex Standard, officially confirmed this fact: "The connection with Motorola gives Vertex Standard a chance to penetrate Motorola's distribution networks. We also expect to reduce expenses and strengthen our position in the professional radio market." The remaining 20% remains owned by the Japanese company Tokogien. The name of the company will be preserved.
Motorola will pay approximately 108 million US dollars. Motorola should officially join the company in January 2008.
