On January 24-25, 2009, the first round of this year's Short Listening Period (SLP) competition took place. The goal of the competition is to encourage activity SWL (Short Wave Listeners) - short wave listeners who record connections between radio amateurs on different bands and modes.
Participants have the task of capturing and correctly recording as many valid connections as possible during the specified time period, limited to one weekend. Points are allocated according to the number and variety of captured stations, which evaluates not only technical readiness, but also the ability to effectively monitor the bands.
In the opening round of 2009, Vladimir Ignatov R3A-847 from Russia did the best, scoring 11,934 points. The second place was taken by Jozef Marcincák OM3-0001 from Slovakia with an excellent result of 7,168 points, and the third place belonged to Johan Heus NL9723 from the Netherlands. The results confirm the high level of listeners from several countries and the continued popularity of SLP as an international discipline within the amateur radio hobby.
