We would like to introduce you to the details of our fourth radio-cycling expedition, organized this year under the name "Southern Road". You may have noticed information about last year's edition in the magazine Radio amateur; the route of this year's event follows the previous one.
Specifically: on Friday 27.7. we will meet in Čierná in Pošumaví, near Lake Lipno, and we will finish on Sunday, August 5. in Mikulov.
It goes without saying that we will be broadcasting on the route as the situation allows - this year we have a special call sign available for the first time OL5CX (Cycling-eXpedice), which we will prefer. Our "communication channel" during the move is 145.550 MHz FM. If we pass through your countries, try to contact us directly here - we would be happy to receive tips on where to find the best refreshment or where to swim, or we would like to see a nice antenna system of a local radio amateur along the way.
If we arrive at a higher elevation or during a stopover/overnight stay, we intend to activate other bands/frequencies, primarily: 144.280 MHz SSB, 50.180 MHz SSB, 3.740 MHz SSB, 3.555 MHz CW. Of course, we will be elsewhere, but considering that we will only use QRP battery-powered devices, rather than fighting a pileup of calling stations, we'd rather tune in to call anyone at all.
Now a list of more significant points on the route where we plan higher radioactivity:
- Saturday, 28.7. – VHF elevation Vitkův Kámen (above 1,000 m above sea level) around noon
- Sunday, 29.7. – QRV KV in the evening from the dormitory in Čierno Údolí
- Monday, 30.7. – VKV Kraví Hora nad Hojnou Vodou
- Tuesday, 31.7. – probably only in the evening at KV
- Wednesday, 1.8. – let's hope that on the way there will be some quota for VKV activity around the Old Town under Landštejn, otherwise in the evening VKV from the hostel in Slavonice
- Thursday, 2.8. – probably only KV, around Znojmo
- Friday, 3.8. – evening at the shooting range on Turolda nad Mikulovo KV and VKV
- Saturday, 4.8. – in the morning, the elevation of Děvín na Pálava, planned participation in the VKV BBT competition; in the afternoon, the Minaret observation tower near Lednica; evening again at Turolda KV/VKV
Our goal is to continuously inform others about the events of the expedition, through packets and the Internet, as the situation allows. We assume that there will be a functional website www.volny.cz/ol5cx, where it will also be possible to leave links to participants.
We would also like to try the pilot station system, hopefully it will help us on 80 m Lada OK1FRT, a participant from previous years who cannot attend this year, and we hope that he will be in touch with us at least by radio.
