The DOAAF-85 satellite, also known as RS-44, is a Russian amateur radio satellite that attracted a lot of attention from the amateur radio community after its commissioning. It was launched on March 30, 2020, and its main contribution is a linear transponder allowing radio amateurs around the world to make connections via Earth orbit. RS-44 operates in the 70 cm and 2 m bands, offering a wide frequency range that facilitates simultaneous connections of several stations. The satellite's orbit is elliptical, which increases the amount of time the satellite is above the horizon and available for communications. Thanks to its stable operation and strong signal, the RS-44 quickly gained popularity and became a favorite tool of radio amateurs all over the world.
