SNP International Race
The race is traditionally held every year on the third Sunday of August, in honor of the Slovak National Uprising, one of the most significant events in our history. The main feature of the race is broadcasting from field and transit stations. On the day of the race, many radio amateurs go with their portable radio stations to the SNP battlegrounds, to the SNP monuments, to bunkers and dugouts in the mountains, where the Slovak army and partisans fought against the occupiers. We go early in the morning, when the fog still lies in the valleys, in any weather with a backpack full of batteries, wires and transmitters. A wire antenna is stretched at each point of radio operation, the device is switched on and station tags and competition codes fly into the air. Only those, whose joints and knees are already creaking, they compete from home. However, the speed and difficulty of the race will not pass them by. It is broadcast in two power categories: QRP up to 5W and category up to 100W, by telegraph or SSB phone. Connections are established between Czech and Slovak stations, as well as with Slovaks and Czechs who live abroad. Participation in these races grows from year to year.
