Results of the 4th stage of SLP 2012

The SLP Competition 2012 listening race series is exactly halfway through. Stage four, which took place over the weekend of 12 and 13 May 2012, brought the biggest dramas to date and significantly shuffled the standings. While the first three stages indicated some stability at the top, the May round showed that nothing is decided this year. It turned out that a single lapse in activity, or on the contrary, one extraordinary performance, can completely change the dynamics of the entire competition.

The absolute star of the fourth stage was Jan Mandos (NL997). His performance was literally dominant in the May round. With a total gain of an incredible 29,890 points, he not only won this round, but literally outclassed the rest of the starting field. For better comparison, his points gain was almost triple that of the second place in the standings. It was this extraordinary performance that secured him a massive jump in the overall rating and brought him significantly closer to the fight for the title.

Slovakian listener Jozef Marcincak (OM3-0001) finished in second place, significantly behind the winner, who scored 11,920 points. With this, Jozef once again confirmed his stable form and systematic work, which keeps him at the top. Bill Smith (W1-7897) finished third in the stage with a score of 9,779 points, returning to the game after a zero profit in the third stage. Fourth place in the stage was taken by Jan Meulenberg (NL6828) with 8,618 points and fifth place by Sjuk Veenstra (NL6904) with 5,936 points.

However, the biggest drama happened in the context of the year-long competition. The interim leader after three rounds, Vladimir Ignatov (R3A-847), surprisingly did not score a single point in the May stage. This absence may have cost him the lead, but his lead from the first three rounds (where he amassed a respectable 131,566 points) was so huge that he retained first place in the standings. However, his inactivity breathed new life into the competition and dramatically opened the door for the chasers. Jan Mandos (NL997), thanks to his triumphant performance, catapulted his total score to 96,166 points and firmly established himself in second place. Slovak representative Jozef Marcincak (OM3-0001) advanced to third place overall with 71,872 points thanks to his second place in the stage and stable performance in all four rounds. Bill Smith (W1-7897) fell to fourth place. So the competition has moved into the second half and the battle for overall victory is more open than ever after the May round.
