Posledný januárový víkend, 28. – 29. januára 2017, sa uskutočnilo prvé kolo tradičnej série súťaží SLP Competition 2017. This opening race kicked off the new season and brought the first points in the overall ranking, which will gradually take shape during the following stages. The competition is intended for SWL operátorov, teda poslucháčov amatérskej rádiovej prevádzky, a pravidelne sa jej zúčastňujú nadšenci z rôznych krajín sveta.
V prvom kole dominoval Sjuk Veenstra (NL6904), ktorý si výborným výkonom zabezpečil prvé miesto so ziskom 6420 bodov. Na druhom mieste skončil Johan Heus (NL9723) so 5658 bodmi, while both participants created a significant lead over the rest of the starting field. He took the third place Helmut Grund (DE2HUG), ktorý získal 3300 bodov.
Representatives from Russia, Spain and the Czech Republic also reached the top ten. He was the best-placed home listener Vít Sirůčka (OK2-36449) na 10. mieste so 77 bodmi.
