RigExpert Plus is a luxurious interface for connecting a computer with a transceiver. It ensures a complete separation of the earths, which eliminates not only possible hum, but also the risk of damage to the sensitive VF PC technology from the transmitter. Keying PTT is implemented via USB.
RigExpert Plus can be divided into several parts, each of which performs a different function:
- Audio interface
- It is the basis of the entire device. It ensures the audio connection of the output of the transceiver with the input of the sound card and the output of the sound card to the input of the transceiver. It allows you to work in all digimodes, record signals from the band, give a challenge and so on. The level can be adjusted with the potentiometers on the front panel.
- Optical input/output S/PDIF
- It is used for audio connection with modern devices such as IC-7800 via optical cable. Such a cable is available in ordinary stores with audio equipment.
- CAT – Computer Aided Transceiver
- RigExpert Plus integrates several CAT interfaces through which the device can be controlled from a computer.
- FSK output
- FSK is a method of creating modulation in digi operation (usually used in RTTY). Most of the high-quality devices thus make it possible to create a high-quality and undistorted signal. The FSK configuration can be set using jumpers.
- PTT and CW keying
- In CW operation, it is necessary to switch the transceiver to transmit and then key. RigExpert Plus solves this by emulating a COM port with separate signals (RTS and DTR).
- SQUELCH
- Some programs, such as EchoLink, require an activity signal on the frequency - that is, an open squelch. This information is on the DCD output of the COM port.
- Built-in CW keyer
- Allows connection of one- and two-paddle traps. Dots are transmitted in one position, commas in the other. When pressing both paddles simultaneously, dots and dashes alternate. The keying speed is set with a potentiometer or via a computer. RigExpert Plus is definitely a top product, which also corresponds to the price: 399,-Euro.
