Big contest overview July 2026

July is one of the most exposed contest months in the calendar. It combines the summer VHF sezóna, vrchol krátkovlnového contestingu v podobe IARU HF World Championship and in 2026 also the first ever WRTC in the United KingdomIn addition to this, there are a number of regular Slovak and Czech competitions that form the backbone of domestic contest activity throughout the year.

The most prestigious events of July

VHF Field Day (3rd subregional competition)

VHF Field Day, oficiálne 3. subregionálne preteky na VKV, organizuje Slovenský zväz rádioamatérov počas prvého plného júlového víkendu. V roku 2026 sa koná od soboty 4. júla 14:00 UTC until Sunday, July 5, 14:00 UTC. This is the peak of the summer VHF season, when operators head out with portable equipment to heights and elevated sites to verify the gain of directional antennas and operation on microwave bands. The competition combines classic contesting with the technical challenges of building temporary workplaces in the field - designers of microwave transverters also find application QRP nadšenci.

IARU HF World Championship

Druhý plný júlový víkend, v roku 2026 konkrétne July 11–12, patrí celosvetovému preteku IARU HF World Championship. Pretek beží 24 hodín nepretržite od 12:00 UTC v sobotu do 11:59 UTC v nedeľu na pásmach 1,8, 3,5, 7, 14, 21 a 28 MHz v CW aj SSB. Unikátnym prvkom je prítomnosť HQ staníc – staníc reprezentujúcich národné spoločnosti IARU, ktoré namiesto ITU zóny vysielajú skratku svojej organizácie a fungujú ako špeciálny násobič. WRTC 2026

The year 2026 is also special for world contesting because for the first time in history, World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) in the United Kingdome. Podujatie sa uskutoční od 8. do 13.–14. júla 2026 v regióne East Anglia (Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire), s hlavným zázemím v Wyboston Lakes pri meste St Neots v Cambridgeshire. Spolu 50 tímov z celého sveta bude súťažiť z identicky vybavených staníc počas samotného víkendu IARU HF World Championship – teda July 11–12 2026. Tímy sa kvalifikovali na základe výsledkov vo veľkých svetových contestoch v období október 2023 až marec 2025. WRTC je často označovaný za „olympiádu rádioamatérskeho contestingu“ a táto edícia je prvou v histórii hostenou na britskej pôde.

IOTA contest

RSGB IOTA Contest sa tradične koná posledný júlový víkend, v roku 2026 konkrétne July 25–26, od 12:00 UTC v sobotu do 12:00 UTC v nedeľu. Pretek prebieha na pásmach od 80 m po 10 m v CW a SSB, vymieňaný kód je signálový report, poradové číslo a IOTA referencia ostrovnej skupiny. Pretek je príležitosťou pre ostrovné expedície aj domáce stanice naháňajúce nové IOTA referencie.

Youth Field Day

Youth Field Day is a SZR competition for operators who are under 18 years of age on the day of the competition. It takes place before the 3rd subregional competition and the competition is held on the 144 and 432 MHz bands in the Single Operator and Multi Operator categories. Connections can be made with both young and adult operators, including foreign stations. The general conditions of the SZR VHF competition apply to the competition, including electronic log keeping.

SSB Liga

SSB Liga is a monthly contest held on the first Saturday of each month from 07:00 to 09:00 local time on the 80m band, specifically in the 3620–3650 kHz and 3700–3775 kHz bands, exclusively in SSB mode. In July 2026, it will be held on Saturday, July 4. The categories are QRP (max. 10 W input or 5 W output), QRO (výkon podľa operátorskej triedy, odporúčaných 100 W) a SWL. Celé RF vybavenie stanice musí byť umiestnené v kruhu s priemerom 500 m. Organizátorom je OK1MZM.

OM Activity contest

OM Activity contest (OMAC) is organized by SZR as a series of 12 monthly stages, always on the second Saturday of the month. The CW part takes place from 06:00 to 06:59 local time, the SSB part from 07:00 to 07:59 on the 80 m band, in the sections 3,520–3,560 kHz (CW) and 3,700–3,775 kHz (SSB). The competition is announced only for OM and OK stations establishing contacts exclusively with each other. The categories are QRO and QRP, separately and combined for CW and SSB. RS(T) and the sequence number of the connection are exchanged. The nine best stage results out of twelve are counted for the annual evaluation.

VHF Operating asset

VHF Operating asset is a year-round monthly SZR competition designed to support the activities of Slovak VHF operators, conceptually similar to similar competitions in neighboring countries. Only stations broadcasting from the territory of the Slovak Republic are evaluated. It is possible to work with one station once on each band in a given stage. The maximum power in all categories is 100 W. The multiplier is the large locator square worked, while the own square is automatically counted as a multiplier regardless of whether it was worked in a given stage. Logs are sent within three days after the race via the web interface at vkv.szr.sk.

Activity 160 m

The 160 m activity is a regular domestic competition on the 160 m band organized within the framework of the Slovak and Czech HF competitions, aimed at supporting operation on this technically demanding band with high demands on the antenna system and low receiver noise.

Sunday race

The Sunday Race is a short Sunday competition in the Czech amateur radio calendar, designed for quick and regular meetings of operators on the HF bands outside of major international events.

KV Operating assets

KV Provozní aktiv is a monthly competition on shortwave, similar to VHF Operating assets aimed at maintaining regular operational activity of Czech and Slovak stations on the HF bands outside of large DX contests.

Memorial OK1WC

The OK1WC Memorial is an hour-long commemorative competition dedicated to telegraph operations, organized regularly within a monthly cycle every Monday from 1630 UTC to 1729 UTC on 80m and 40m.

CUC test

CUC (Cimrmanov Utajený contest) test je krátka telegrafná aktivitná súťaž obdobná medzinárodným medium speed testom – pravidelné stretnutie operátorov na CW s dôrazom na presnosť a rýchlosť prevádzky v miernom tempe.

Foreign and world contests

Okrem domácich súťaží júlový kalendár obsahuje aj rad medzinárodných podujatí mimo hlavných troch (IARU, WRTC, IOTA). Patria sem napríklad NCCC Sprint a NCCC FT4 Sprint, K1USN Slow Speed Test, ICWC Medium Speed ​​Test, Worldwide Sideband Activity Contest, RSGB FT4 Contest, RSGB 3,5 MHz Club Championship, YOTA Contest (19. júla, CW/SSB) a SARL Saturday 40 m Club Contest. Tieto podujatia ponúkajú širokú škálu formátov od krátkych sprintov po digitálne módy a sú vhodné najmä pre operátorov, ktorí chcú udržiavať pravidelnú contestovú kondíciu mimo veľkých víkendových podujatí.

Júl 2026 ponúka kombináciu, ktorá sa neopakuje každý rok – domáci VKV Poľný deň, svetový IARU HF Championship a navyše historicky prvý WRTC v Spojenom kráľovstve, ktorý sa odohráva práve počas tohto víkendu. Pre slovenských a českých operátorov je to ideálna príležitosť otestovať stanicu, zapojiť sa do pravidelných mesačných aktivít ako SSB Liga, OMAC alebo VHF Operating asset a sledovať priebeh WRTC naživo.
