DXBeam antennas
The DXBeam brand was created in 2006 by Olivier, F6ARC, and over the years has built a solid reputation with exports to five continents. In 2012, F6ARC decided to retire and DXBeam took over DX Avenue — production has since been in the hands of Patrick, F2DX. The antennas are still 100% made in France, with the same materials, precision and know-how as the original manufacturer.
All antennas are delivered pre-tuned and checked, with stainless steel hardware and illustrated assembly instructions. Each delivery includes two contact lubricants: aluminum and copper. Antennas are made to order, usually with a delivery time of 1 to 2 months, with a 30% deposit paid when ordering.
Single-band antennas
The DXBeam Monobander range covers the bands from 40m to 2m (144MHz). The basic group consists of rotatable dipoles for the 40m and 30m bands and directional Yagi and Moxon antennas for the 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10, 6 and 2m bands.
For example, a rotating dipole for 40 m (DXM40-1) is available for 439 EUR, a 2-element Yagi for 40 m (DXM40-2) for 993 EUR, a 3-element Yagi for 40 m (DXM40-3) for 1,732 EUR and a 4-element Yagi for 40 m (DXM40-4) for 2,095 EUR.
For the 20 m band, a 2-element Moxon (DXM20-2mx) is available for EUR 490, a 3-element Yagi (DXM20-3) for EUR 640, and a 5-element Yagi (DXM20-5) for EUR 1,398.
For 6 m (50 MHz), the range includes a 2-element Moxon (DXM6-2mx) for €147, a 3-element Yagi for €165 to a 6-element Yagi for €357. On the 2 m (144 MHz) band, a 5-element Yagi (DXM2-5) for €99 and a 12-element Yagi (DXM2-12) for €280 are available.
Dual-band antennas
DXBeam dual band antennas cover combinations of 40/30 m, 30/17 m, 17/15 m and 15/10 m bands. The 40/30 m rotating dipole (DXD4030-1) costs 520 EUR, the 3-element 40/30 m Yagi (DXD4030-3) 1,495 EUR, the 4-element 40/30 m Yagi (DXD4030-4) 1,663 EUR, the 4-element 30/17 m Yagi (DXD3017-4) 918 EUR and the 4-element 17/15 m Yagi (DXD1715-4) 548 EUR.
Multiband antennas
DXBeam Multiband antennas are designed especially for WARC band combinations. The portfolio includes a 6-element Yagi for 30/17/12 m (DXT301712-6) for 1,097 EUR and an 8-element Yagi for 30/17/12 m (DXT301712-8) for 1,605 EUR. In addition, 17/12/10 m and 15/12/10 m combinations are available in various configurations.
DXBeam Extensions and Accessories
A range of extensions allows for gradual upgrades of an existing antenna without the need to purchase a whole new model. For example, a kit for adding 12 mk band to an existing 6-element Yagi 20/15/10 m (DXK12-8, price 199 EUR) or a kit for adding 17 mk band to an 8-element Yagi 20/15/12/10 m (DXK17-10, price 165 EUR). Mast and antenna anchoring systems
Anchoring is the original specialty of DX Avenue. The insulated ropes are made in France from premium polyester monofilaments without recycled material, with excellent resistance to water, sun and frost, with high tensile strength and excellent RF insulation. The manufacturer states a service life of more than 25 years for ropes with a diameter of 2.6 and 3 mm and more than 40 years for insulated anchor cable with a diameter of 5.8 and 7.5 mm.
For the attachment of 2.6 and 3 mm insulated ropes, Gripple® quick-release clamps with removal key are used; they are also available with a rope thimble made of stainless steel extending accessories. For larger masts, 5.8 mm (€1.00/m) and 7.5 mm (€1.60/m) insulated anchor cables are available with turnbuckles, rope thimbles and wire clamps. The HF Beam and Quad guying kits (No. 2 and No. 3) contain all the necessary stainless steel (marine grade) accessories for anchoring the boom or span of directional antenna elements.
Metal mast anchoring can significantly affect the radiation characteristics of directional antennas. DX Avenue therefore recommends non-metallic insulated ropes, which do not have this problem.
Antenna mounts
The antenna mount range consists of eight items. These include a U-mount with serrated jaws for pipes with a diameter of 20–52 mm (6.70 EUR), a strong guy bolt for pipes Ø 25–52 mm with serrated jaws for masts Ø 20–55 mm (7.80 EUR) and the Erard 800998 universal bracket for extending a pipe or creating a perpendicular arm (28.00 EUR).
For wall mounting, caravan towbar and similar locations for Ø 25–50 mm poles, the Erard 800880 multi-purpose bracket (33.00 EUR) is used. The range is completed by stainless steel eyebolts in sizes M6, M8 and M10.
Waterproofing products
Coaxial cable is susceptible to water ingress, leading to oxidation of the inner conductor and failure of the connection. DX Avenue offers 19 products for protecting connectors and cable joints, all of which come from European manufacturers.
There is a self-vulcanizing tape (10 m, water and ozone resistant, EUR 8.90), 3M Scotchfil insulating mastic tape (1.5 m × 38 mm, up to +80°C, EUR 12.00) and a wider mastic tape (1 m × 51 mm, up to +130°C, EUR 5.90). The range of heat-shrinkable tubes covers diameters from 3 to 56 mm in various lengths with a shrink ratio of 3:1 or 4:1 and an internal thermoplastic resin coating. Additional products are plastic plugs for tubes with a diameter of 20–60 mm, protecting the ends of the tubes of masts and elements from the ingress of water and dirt.
Coaxial cables and jacks
DX Avenue offers 12 items of coaxial cables. The main products are ULTRAFLEX 7 (50 Ω, 7.3 mm diameter, sold by the meter for 2.90 EUR/m) and ULTRAFLEX 10 (50 Ω, 10.3 mm diameter, 4.25 EUR/m), both highly flexible. ZFLEX 10 (50 Ω, 10.3 mm diameter) is also available on 100-meter spools for 3.25 EUR/m. For all three cable types, DX Avenue also offers customer-installed connectors with resin-coated heat-shrink tubing for 8.50 EUR/piece (connector not included). Ready-made PL-PL jumpers in lengths of 0.5 m and 1 m made of ULTRAFLEX 7 and ULTRAFLEX 10 cables with PTFE connectors and heat-shrink tubing are immediately available (22–26 EUR). The range is complemented by a professional SMA pigtail from the SUHNER S03262 B-60 cable (4.6 mm, 103 cm, two SMA right-angle connectors, EUR 5.50).
Ropes for winch
For telescopic and Hazer Tram masts, DX Avenue offers ultra-flexible stainless steel wire ropes in 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm diameters sold by the metre (from 1.40 EUR/m to 6.10 EUR/m). Steel sleeves are also available for all diameters. These ropes are different from insulated polyester ropes for antenna anchorage — they are metallic and intended exclusively for use in winches and pulleys where RF influence on the antenna is not relevant.
Protection (grounding and equipotential bonding)
The protective products section includes nine items. The basis is grounding kits for coaxial cable: for cables with a diameter of 10–11 mm (types RG213, RG214, ULTRAFLEX 10, ZFLEX 10, LMR400, KX4 and similar, price 15.00 EUR) and for cables with a diameter of ½ and ¼ inch (17–19 EUR). The grounding cable for ½ inch Coax with a clip and copper end is available for 9.90 EUR. Conductive brackets made of stainless steel (4.50 EUR), aluminum (3.50 EUR) or with a 1.5-meter cable and clamps (9.50 EUR) are used to create conductive connections of radio devices with protective grounding. The assortment is complemented by antistatic wrist straps (2.00 EUR).
Lubricants
DX Avenue offers 12 items of professional French-made lubricants, long-term used at relaunch sites in extreme climatic conditions. Aluminum grease with a 30 percent aluminum particle content (14.90 EUR) is designed for assembling aluminum antenna tubes — it prevents seizure, corrosion, and the formation of aluminum oxide.
Copper conductive grease (14.90 EUR or 4.30 EUR in a 10 ml sachet) is suitable for all joints requiring electrical continuity and prevents oxidation between steel and aluminium.
Special grease for rotators and bearings (13.90 EUR) is designed for bearings, gears and thrust bearings under extreme pressure, insoluble in water. Grease for masts and ropes (9.90 EUR) is intended for telescopic masts, pulleys and winches. Convenient sets of two or four greases are also available.
Wire antennas on expedition FP5KE
For the construction of wire antennas (dipole, delta-loop, Moxon, cubical quad, long wire) DX Avenue offers six special products. The main product is a large insulating hanger for wire antennas (1.50 EUR) with high mechanical resistance. A 3-millimeter duplex clamp is available for fastening the wires. The wire antenna range also includes pulleys with a stainless steel body and nylon wheel (4.20 EUR) and stainless steel carabiners with a diameter of 4, 8 and 12 mm (1.30–7.00 EUR) — these are also common to the anchoring systems category.
Other products
There are 14 items in the other accessories section. The dominant items are plastic end caps for aluminum tubes with a diameter of 20–60 mm (EUR 0.60–2.50/piece), which protect the ends of antenna elements from water, insects and dirt. Also available are sets of 10 stainless steel screws M8×25 mm (EUR 5.90), stainless steel brackets for mounting equipment outdoors (EUR 2.50/set of 5 pieces) and conductive brackets shared with the protection section. The assortment is completed by connectors of all common types (N, UHF/PL, 7/16, BNC, SMA, SMB, RJ45) and cable ties.
DX expedition practice F2DX
Patrick, F2DX is not just a manufacturer of antenna accessories — he is an active DX man with a rich expedition history. From 1988 to 1991 he worked in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon under the call sign FP5DX. In October 1990 he organized an expedition to St. Paul Island under the call sign CY9CF. Practical experience
Every radio amateur who has built a slightly taller mast has the same fear: "Just so it doesn't fall." When I was planning RDM-12, so I spent hours searching for information, doing calculations, and consulting with professionals. And since I didn't want to skimp on safety, I ordered the anchoring material from DX Avenue.
Such material is not cheap and there is not a shortage of it. Less than two weeks later, a large package arrived. Luckily, I was opening it on the terrace, because the anchor rope jumped out of the box like a devil after permission. It has considerable rigidity at a low weight. I was glad that I also ordered eyelets and clamps - the quality is top-notch. Precise threads, no unwanted edges. When assembling, it is worth following the recommendations regarding the location and number of clamps.
I also ordered a single strand anchor rope and a Gripple® hanger for another mast. I am not so happy with this hanger, sometimes it "bites" or slips.
