Very short waves (abbreviation VHF or VHF from English Very High Frequency) are frequencies above 30 MHz. The propagation of signals of such frequencies is different from that in the shortwave band. VHF bands are ideal for local communication, experimenting with technologies, signal research and various types of digital communication. Popular forms of VHF communication include simplex connections, converters, satellite links and digital modes such as APRS and D-STAR.

On VHF it is possible to encounter DX connections with propagation such as meteor scatter, tropo, aurora and many others.

For many radio amateurs, VHF bands are the basis of their activity, because they provide a flexible and fun way to communicate with other operators in their area and through various technological means.
