Simon Brown G4ELI, author of the popular SDR Console, released version 1.1.2 of its standalone software on June 12, 2026 SDR Television – Windows application designed for receiving and broadcasting digital amateur television (DATV) in the DVB-S2 standard. Version 1.1.2 follows the stable branch 1.1, the code of which has undergone several weeks of testing in the community around satellite QO-100 (Es'hail-2)G4ELI also received the G3AAJ Cup from AMSAT UK for this software for its contribution to satellite operations. What is SDR Television for?
SDR Television is a signature-certified 64-bit Windows application that covers the complete DVB-S2 operation chain: reception, demodulation and decoding DSP signal processing, video and audio display, and on the broadcast side, video encoding from a webcam or OBS Studio, DVB-S2 modulation and sending IQ data to the SDR hardware. The software eliminates the need for additional hardware such as a MiniTuner or an external video player such as VLC.
The primary target system is the geostationary satellite QO-100 (Es'hail-2) with an amateur wideband transponder for DATV. The symbol rates included in the current version cover the common DATV bands; the 66 ksps rate is currently marked as experimental and will be further improved.
New in version 1.1.2 is the option to optionally turn off the audio track, freeing up bandwidth for video. This option is intended primarily for use in DATV competitions, where every free bit within a two ksps bandwidth determines the quality of the image.
What devices does it support?
For reception, any SDR device capable of receiving in the 700 to 800 MHz band in conjunction with a conventional satellite LNB on the QO-100 is sufficient. In addition to Pluto SDR, reception is also tested with Airspy and SDRplay. For broadcasting, SDR Television supports the Analog Devices ADALM Pluto hardware and its clones or derivatives (LibreSDR, Pluto+). Possible support for other transceivers, such as LimeSDR, is planned for later versions.
Overview of supported hardware by operating mode:
| Equipment | Reception (RX) | Transmission (TX) |
|---|---|---|
| ADALM Pluto / LibreSDR / Pluto+ | Yes | Yes |
| Airspy | Yes | No |
| SDRplay | Yes | No |
The software requires Windows 10 or later, 64-bit x86 architecture and AVX2 instruction set (Core2Duo processors do not have support). Code optimization targets systems with eight or more logical processors. In addition to the SDR Television application itself, SDR Radio 64-bit installation is also required to run it, at least in build 4008 dated March 18, 2026.
