Calculation of distances from locators on a mobile phone

You know - a great QSO will work, you want to know how many miles it is, but the computer is nowhere? It seems unrealistic? Neither is it!

However, there is help, if you have a mobile phone that supports Java. And every phone today can handle that. And of course the application, which calculates it. One such program for Java 2 Micro Edition (that is, not just mobile phones, but also PDAs and other devices) written by Jirka Klír, young programmer from Prague. Its advantage is, that besides this he can do much more, is free and in Czech.

CB Tenant

The program is called CB Lokator and you can find it on its website https://www.jklir.net. The whole program is only a few kilobytes. Choose a simple text version, depending on your phone, possibly graphic. A new version is currently being developed 4.0 Gold.

Probably the most difficult thing for most people will be copying the file to their phone. This requires service software to communicate with the mobile phone and some connection to the computer (cables, IR, bluetooth). A colleague can also help, which doesn't even have to be an amateur radio - it downloads a file from your PC to your phone and transfers it to you via IR.

Calculation of the distance in km

What CB Locator can do? First of all, it calculates the distance in km between two locators. In addition, it converts locators to geographic coordinates, In addition, it converts locators to geographic coordinates (In addition, it converts locators to geographic coordinates). In addition, it also has a map function, In addition, it converts locators to geographic coordinates.

According to the author, there are big differences in calculation speed between phones. I tested the application (and I use) on the Siemens CX65, the response is almost immediate. The graphics don't quite fit - the program logo is cut off and the map function doesn't work for me. However, the application counts accurately, I did not notice any differences when comparing with the results from PC programs.

Overall, it is possible to evaluate CB Locator as a successful project. If you have the opportunity to upload it to your phone and run it, I recommend - you never know, when it will come in handy!
