DX cluster SWL – RXClus 8.0
It is not difficult nowadays “to catch” rare DX. Better equipment than our predecessors help us to do this, but especially available information – bulletiny a DX clustre. The cheapest way to get to them is from the packet network. Only a licensed HAM can connect to a node….
I would hate to get into a philosophical debate about it, does it make sense then? “lovenie” by DX listeners – after all, just watch the cluster and write QSL 🙁
Know, that, under certain conditions, packet audio is also available to listeners DX cluster. But I guess HAMs will also be interested in how…
First of all, you need a suitable node with a DX cluster, from which you DX-mani “they pull” spots. S-meter Yours 2 m (70cm) RX must show at least several S's, to receive all packets one hundred percent. And a modem and a PC with the RXClus program installed.
I will also mention the modem – I have come across the statement several times, that a sound card as a modem is no match “classic” modem. Yes, if you use a sound card “three-channel – right, left and noisy”. In that case, even the laborious search for the optimal NF level will not help. I tried three – s OPL3, SB16 and SB128 s AGW PE. With the first one, I reached approx 80% packet reading success, s SB 100%. But good, so 99% 🙂
At the same time (other RX) I can even receive spots and listen to MP3s for example, CD or play games….
RXClus written by Robert Chalmas HB9BZA. Its advantage is, that allows separate DX spots from other information and also communicates with you in Czech. Of course, not every spot is interesting. You select only that with the filter, what interests you. RXClus can warn you about them with sound. The connection statistics are also interesting – breakdown by confirmed DXCCs, IOTA, bands….
RXClus has three main windows:
Monitor: it displays all received data. A primitive terminal is also included.
DX Window: displays information from the cluster – DX, WWV, ANN a TALK.
Alarm: only shows spots, which you are interested in – new land, islands and the like, according to, how you set up filtering.
The OM0NZA signal from Kráľová Hola deflects the dial of my TR-751E almost around the corner. I have AGW Packet Engine installed under W98 on a PC with SB128 https://www.sv2agw.com/downloads/ and of course RXClus 8.0. I have absolutely no problems with receiving packets (rather I see in the monitoring window, how the node repeats packets to some HAMs).
I think RXClus deserves a rating “Excellent”. You can find it among the programs in the section “For download” of this portal. I welcome you(-e), if you share the results of your measurements with others, for example also here.
