Icom at the exhibition Dayton Hamvention 2026 introduced the concept of the SM-J1 desktop microphone, which the company presented as a premium novelty intended exclusively for amateur radio operations. The microphone is designed with two microphone elements and brings several practical solutions that were missing from previous models in this category.
Main features of the Icom SM-J1
The key feature of the SM-J1 is its dual-element microphone array, which ensures natural and intelligible speech in both SSB and FM operation. An integrated switch is used to connect to transceivers from different manufacturers, making the microphone compatible with TCVRs from Icom, Alinco and KENWOOD without the need to change cables or adapters.
The controls directly on the microphone body include a PTT button with a locking function (PTT LOCK), UP/DOWN buttons and four programmable function buttons F1 to F4, which can be used to control the transceiver directly from the stand. The microphone arm is adjustable and the whole thing stands on a stable base. The color of the design is black.

Performance at Dayton Hamvention 2026
The SM-J1 was first introduced to the public at the Dayton Hamvention 2026, which took place from May 15 to 17, 2026 at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia, Ohio. It is the largest rádioamatérske podujatie na svete. Icom na ňom prezentoval SM-J1 ako fyzický concept mock-up — teda prototypový model určený na ukázanie konceptu, nie ešte hotový sériový výrobok.
Along with the SM-J1, Icom also introduced a dual-band digital transceiver at Daytona 2026 ID-5200A/E, automatic antenna tuner AH-6.
Where to buy Icom SM-J1
As the SM-J1 was only shown as a concept mock-up at Daytona, an exact availability date and price were not announced at the time of the presentation. Interested parties can check availability and pre-order the microphone from European distributor WiMo (wimo.com), where the product is included in the offer with the option of free pre-order. US distributor GigaParts (gigaparts.com) offers to sign up for availability notifications.
