FY5KE French Guiana
The FY5KE brand appears frequently in contest journals. This year should not be an exception either CQ WW DX Contrest. In the 10m band, it will be served by F4CWN.
The beginnings of FY5KE
Radio amateur club in Kourou, better known as RACK, is a non-profit association, which was born in 1977, 5. January, at the initiative of Jean GRUAU, F8HP, its honorary chairman.
The club was first based in the city of Kourou (1977 – 1989), but it had no antennas built. Then in the year 1989 moved to the port area of CSG (Guyanese Space Center, European Space Centre) in Pariacabo and lasted there until the year 1995. AMSAT/Germany provided the club tribander FB33 Fritzel and direction indicator on the WARC band.
Finally, the RACK in January 1995 He moved to “leisure park” CSG and remains there to this day. It is located on the surface 50 x 50 m, where there is a mobile home with an area 60 m² (is no longer mobile…).
This plot is quite small for a KV antenna farm, but it also allows you to use a nearby clearing to stretch the beverage antennas. which they could tell you, the immediate surroundings are mostly dense and high equatorial forest… The sea is several kilometers away from the location !
The main activity of RACK is hosting hams from Kourou, most of whom work directly or indirectly in the space program ! Except this one “normal” activities for the club station, members of RACK organized several expeditions to SA-020 and the beginning 90. years have participated in competitive works. They participated in the REF contest in 1990-91-92 and at the CQWW SSB Contest in 1996 v M/S (F6EPM, FY5FY ops). After several years of weak activity, it came in 2000 revival of contesting.
FY5KE a Win-Test
All team members were always asking for additional features of the CT program, but unfortunately, even though CT became freeware, it wasn't open source and they couldn't add anything significant to it. Olivier F5MZN decided to write a new competition software tailored to the needs of FY5KE: Win-Test.
After several attempts at coding, the first version of Win-Test was private and used in the ARRL DX SSB contest 2003. In the meantime, they mailed several more computers to French Guiana, bringing with them monitors and accessories. Although there were minor errors, they didn't suffer any major crashes and never had to restart the computer during this contest. They even won the M/S world category. It's not that bad for a first try.…
Olivier wanted to keep the CT log simple to navigate and also used most of its keyboard shortcuts. They then decided to share Win-Test with the contest community for a modest fee. Many features have been added over time. In the middle of the year 2003 Laurent F6FVY learned C++ the hard way and helped Olivier with development. Marc F1HAR and Hervé F5HRY wrote and maintained the documentation and quick reference on the website https://www.win-test.com). In addition to other individuals and competition teams, Win-Test is also used by French station TM0HQ from IARU headquarters as part of a WAN setup (Wide Access Network) throughout France since 2003 during the IARU Championships.
