Najprv ešte vysvetlenie čo to remote station je. A remote station is a radio station operated remotely (usually over the Internet) with the operator and the device physically located in different locations.
Technically, two solutions are used:
1) PC with suitable software, for example HamRadio Deluxe or TRX-Manager + VoIP such as Skype or IP Sound in a Windows environment, or Smart GNOME Controll + VoIP Ekiga or TeamSpeak
2) HW solution (remoterig.con) especially for transceivers with a detachable front panel, e.g. IC-706 or TS-480
Possible uses:
- shared club equipment for DX operation for club members without the need to physically be on the premises of the radio club
- the possibility of setting up an amateur radio station for residents of properties without the possibility of implementing an antenna system

Táto technológia však prináša aj určité riziká. Technickým je možná nedokonalosť realizácie (napr. zakľúčovaný TX bez možnosti vypnutia či poškodenie po zásahu blesku). Ďalším rizikom je možnosť podvodu. Kontrola remote station je prakticky veľmi ťažko realizovateľná a opiera sa najmä o čestnosť prevádzkovateľa. Napríklad použitie viacerých RX-ov v rôznych lokalitách pri conteste je neodhaliteľné.
