LAN - connecting computers to the Internet

It can occur in ham chess for various reasons the need to network two computers. It can be using one computer for our hobby and another for the family (try to "cut off" XYL or children from the Internet for the weekend, hi) or contesting in multi categories. If you have a LAN router with a sufficient number of ports, switch či WI-FI router, it should not be a problem.

If you connect to the Internet via WIFI or USB WIFI or a modem, you probably have an unused LAN card in your main computer. In five minutes you can connect another computer with only the cost of a LAN cable. How to do it?

You will need cross (cross) LAN cable of the required length. We plug it into the LAN cards on both computers.

Check it out, whether they are both computers in the same workgroup (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System icon, in the System Properties window, the Computer Name tab). and until, according to one of them, a decision is reached, set the workgroup name as well (click the Change button). Otherwise, Internet sharing will not work!

 

Then open the Network Connections window on a computer connected to the Internet (Start - Settings - Network Connections) and right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the context menu. In the window, that opens select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) a set the IP address to, for example 10.10.0.1 and subnet mask on 255.255.255.0.

On the other PC (ten, which we want, to have internet) set up IP address at 10.10.0.2 (you can also another in the given range, 10.10.0.2 to 255), subnet mask on 255.255.255.0, Exit gate (gateway) on 10.10.0.1 and Preferred DNS server at 10.10.0.1

Now that's enough set up its sharing on a PC connected to the Internet so, that in Network Connections you right-click the icon of the network connected to the Internet, select Properties from the context menu. In the Properties window, select the Advanced tab and enable Internet sharing by ticking the boxes. It should go now. and until, according to one of them, a decision is reached, so try turning off the firewalls on both PCs.

Configure the logs in the multi category according to the instructions for the given program. Read the program manual, for example N1MM would probably have a problem with the mentioned IP addresses. These IP ranges are reserved for internal networks:
10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

And two more important things – a computer with a direct connection to the Internet must of course be turned on, so that the other computer has it. Whether the other computer is protected by a firewall and an antivirus program depends on the software, which you have on your main computer.
